11-22-2007 Fleeing/Eluding
On 22 November 2007 at approx. 2145 hours, Lancaster County Wide Communications broadcasted a be on the look out for a stolen white Honda Civic, and provided the registration number. The vehicle was just stolen from the 100 block of East Liberty Street in Lancaster City. At approximately 2214 hours, an officer from East Cocalico Township Police Department noticed the vehicle traveling northbound on Rt. 222 near Col. Howard Blvd.
The officer pulled directly in back of the vehicle and activated the emergency lights and siren, but he suspect took off and would not pull over. The suspect continued northbound on Rt. 222 at a high rate of speed into Berks County and turned off their lights to try to get away. The suspect continued on Rt 222 turning off onto Penn Avenue in Wyomissing. Police followed the suspect on Penn Avenue through West Reading and onto eastbound Rt. 422. The suspect crashed into a guardrail on Rt. 422 near the Lancaster Avenue exit.
The suspect was arrested and the vehicle sustained driver’s side front end damage. The suspect was identified as Anthony Leon, 18 years of age, last known address of 600 Brookline Plaza, Reading, PA. He complained of back pain and was evaluated and released from the Reading Hospital. He was arraigned by MDJ Willwerth and incarcerated in Lancaster County Prison on $75,000 bail.
Leon was charged with Receiving Stolen Property, Fleeing and Eluding, Unauthorized Use of an Automobile, Driving without lights to avoid arrest, Driving Under Suspension, Reckless Driving and Maximum Speed Limits.
Brecknock Berks Police, Wyomissing Police, Spring Township Police, Reading City Police, and West Reading Police assisted.
00-00-2007 Vehicle Crash
Vehicle Crash: A 1999 Oldsmobile 88 traveling north on Rt. 222 was cut off by a phantom vehicle. The operator, a juvenile, in an effort to avoid a collision swerved and lost control, crossing over the grass median into the southbound lane. A tour bus traveling south saw the car crossing over, slowed and moved to the left lane to avoid the Oldsmobile which was now on the southbound shoulder. As the bus was moving to the left lane, the car crossed back into the southbound lanes hitting the right front corner of the bus with the left front corner of the car.
Two juvenile passengers in the car were transported by Ephrata Ambulance to Lancaster General Hospital where one was treated and released and the other was admitted. All occupants of the Oldsmobile were from Dover, PA.
An 83 year old female passenger, from Temple, PA, on the bus was transported to Ephrata Community Hospital where she was treated for high blood pressure as a result of the stress of the accident. She was also treated and released.
Four of the twenty-four passengers on the bus were evaluated at the scene and signed off without treatment.
The tour bus, from Klein’s Bus Service in Douglasville was traveling from the Shillington area to Sight and Sound for a show with a stop for lunch at Kreider’s Restaurant in Manheim.
East Cocalico Township Police were assisted at the scene by members of the Reamstown and Ephrata Ambulance Associations and Reamstown and Pioneer Fire Companies. (EC)
11-21-2007 Underage Drinking
Occurred 11/21/07 at 1933 hours in the first block of W. Kestral Dr., Denver. A 17 year old male from Denver was charged with Underage Drinking at the above location. (EC)
11-23-2007 DUI Crash
Occurred 11/23/07 at 2022 hours in the 1400 block of N. Reading Rd., Denver. Larry McEllhenney, 20 years of age, Philip Lane, Ephrata, was traveling northbound on N. Reading Rd., accelerated rapidly, lost control and crashed into the rear of a vehicle driven by Makan Kouyate, Greensboro, NC. McEllhenney displayed signs of intoxication, failed Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and was taken to Ephrata Community Hospital for a blood alcohol tests. Test results indicated McEllhenney had a BAC over the legal limit. Charges of DUI, Underage Drinking and Careless Driving will be filed against McEllhenney. (EC)
11-21-2007 Criminal Mischief
Occurred between 11/21/07 and 11/23/07 in the 100 block of N. Reamstown Rd. Two windows were broken on a property owned by Douglas and Amy Pfautz of Reamstown. The damage amount is unknown at this time. (EC)
11-24-2007 D.U.I.
Occurred November 24, 2007 at 1937 hours at 4th St. and Main St., Denver. Sandra Victoria Lucas, 50 years of age, Evergreen St., Denver, was observed traveling through a red traffic signal and was subsequently stopped for the violation. Lucas displayed signs of intoxication and failed Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and was taken to Ephrata Community Hospital for a blood test. Test results indicated Lucas had a BAC over the legal limit. Charges of DUI will be filed against Lucas. (DB)
11-26-2007 Harassment
Occurred 11/26/07 between 0900 and 1200 hours in the first block of E. Church St., Reamstown. Dana Sue Moyer, 25 years of age, E. Church St., Reamstown was charged with Harassment after a domestic dispute turned physical and she pushed and shoved another individual. (EC)
